Sanitary survey of brucellosis in goats from productive systems of the northeast of chaco: first regional microbiological record of the isolation of B. Melitensis from goat abortions
Keywords:

The study was conducted in the village of Miraflores, county of General Güemes, Chaco, Argentina. Seven farms were selected due to their high prevalence to caprine brucellosis, previously determined by Buffered Plate Antigen (BPA) and Fluorescence Polarization immunoassay (FPA) serological tests. In each farm, blood samples without anticoagulants were collected from all the animals from the jugular vein. An additional sampling in females who had aborted in the past 15 days was carried out, consisting in vaginal swabs, blood and milk from the udder. From 98 blood samples, 20 milk samples and 7 vaginal swabs, 8 positive cultures, three from vaginal swabs and five from buffy coat cultures were obtained from 3 of the seven farms. The cultures obtained were submitted to traditional typification. Results showed that the isolated strains in Miraflores corresponded to Brucella melitensis biovar 1, being this in line with previous reports in the region and the country. The isolation of B. melitensis and its relationship with abortions in goats, confirms the high impact of the disease in goat production and reinforces the importance of this disease, not only in goats but also in rural families.
