Particularities of the management of agricultural family businesses in Argentina

Abstract

Family businesses have enormous social economic importance in Argentina
in particular the family farming companies EFA, however work with significant
economic inefficiencies, few surpass generational transfers and when
they dissolve, they lose patrimony and family ties among other reasons for their
particular ways of managing. With the purpose of generating evidence on the
current status of particularities of the EFA management for the use academic
scientific, an exploratory study was conducted based on the interpretation of
responses obtained from surveys conducted in the year 2019 by the responsible
for twenty-seven EFA located in five provinces of Argentina diversified and
specialized in productive areas and with different heritage. In this group of EFA
the results showed beyond the differences in location, types of production and
scale, importants weaknesses in their management such as informality, poor
professionalization, non-participatory and dont democratic organizations,
heavily influenced by conservative macho cultural patterns, and that did not incorporated
available knowledge to strengthen the management because they
dont know or consider as problems that affect the economic productive efficiency
of the company, the duration of the EFA and the integrity of the owner
families of little importance.
