Soil microbiota is essential for soil health and is sensitive to changes induced by different agricultural practices. Due to its rapid response to environmental alterations, it can serve as an early indicator of soil health. Biological activity related to the carbon cycle can be evaluated using indi-cators such as basal respiration RB, microbial biomass carbon (MBC), and eco-physiological indices. Agroecological management systems, which include service crops and regenerative livestock, have been proposed as alternatives to conventional systems to improve soil health and enhance resilience to disturbances. This study focused on evaluating soil health through biological indicators related to the carbon cycle in different management systems, comparing pristine soils with conventional agriculture and an agroecological transition system that includes service crops in rotation and re-generative livestock. The study was conducted in the southern province of Córdoba, on Haplustol soils with similar climatic conditions, considering seasonal variation between spring-summer and autumn-winter. The results showed that basal respiration did not present significant differences between management systems, but there were differences between the years sampled. In contrast, MBC showed interactions between management systems and climatic seasons. Increased organic carbon and microbial biomass improved soil health in agroecologically managed systems.
