Variables que afectan la Resiliencia de productores de maíz por eventos de sequía en el Departamento Río Cuarto

Abstract

The agricultural system of the Río Cuarto Department, Córdoba
(Argentina), was studied to identify the predominant variables that conditioned
its operation. The objective was to identify variables that affect the resilience
of agricultural producers in the area, against the occurrence of adverse events
such as drought, based on surveys and in-depth interviews. If information
on production, socio-demographic, economic and financial characteristics of
maize producers located in the Río Cuarto Department were considered, their
social vulnerability could be determined, since it does not only depend on
external factors -climate, economic conditions and current policies-, but also on
internal factors - geographical location, production organization, among others.
Descriptive Statistics Analysis (AED) and Multiple Correspondence Analysis (MCA)
were performed. The predominant variables in the MCA were: the owner of the
establishment as field manager, own minimum tillage equipment, existence of
insurance contracted for vehicles and personnel, type of sole proprietorship, use
of rain data to plan the sowing date and existence of direct seeding equipment.
The variables associated with the resilience of the agricultural producer were
the change of cultivation, the diversification of production and the handling of
supplies.
