Abstract

Canine hepatozoonosis is a parasitic disease acquired by ingestion of ticks infected with protozoa of the genus Hepatozoon (H). Hepatozoon canis is the only species found so far in Argentina, and it is a parasite of frequent presentation in the dogs of our environment. In this work, through a retrospective study, the most common clinical characteristics and hematological aspects
found in dogs with this parasitosis were surveyed. For this, the medical records of the FAV School Hospital were analyzed, from 2002 to 2014. The most common findings were fiber, pale mucous membranes, adenomegaly and ocular secretion, normochromic macrocytic anemia and leukocytes within the reference values.
