Determinación de la sobrevida en perras con neoplasias mamarias sometidas a mastectomía
Abstract
Canine mammary neoplasm is a very frequent reason for clinical consultation and its treatment of choice is mastectomy. In medical practice, one of the fundamental aspects is determine the prognostic of this pathology and this is an issue of interest to the owners. The aim of this work was to determine the disease free survival (DFS) and the overall survival (OS) of the bitches subjected to mastectomy as the only treatment of this neoplasm and its relationship, with histolopathological characteristics. Twenty-two bitches that presented masses compatible with mammary neoplasms subjected to mastectomy were included
in this research. Then, the histopathological diagnosed of the lesions and the clinical follow-up during 24 months was carried out. The bitches were controlled quarterly after surgery in search of local recurrence or distant metastases. The results were analyzed and it was determined that 50% were benign tumors and 50% were malignant tumors. The average DFS period was 318 days and the mean OS was 436 days. An association between the histological type and the prognosis of the disease was found: simple and mixed carcinomas had a less aggressive behavior than other carcinomas. Furthermore, there was a relationship between DFS and OS with the tumor malignancy grade, at a lower grade, greater OS; in this last case it was significantly statistically.
