Abstract

Dogs have a high prevalence of gastric infection with bacteria of the genus Helicobacter (H). The finding of these bacteria in the gastric mucosa generates a controversy in the practice of small animal medicine, since sometimes they cause clinical signs and sometimes they do not, which calls into question the need for the application of a therapy. On the other hand, the relationship between the presence of these bacteria and gastric disease is not well known, since, although gastritis accompanies the infection in many dogs, in other cases there are no indicators of inflammation despite the infection. The objective of this work was to describe what was observed in the histological examination of gastric biopsies of 30 dogs carrying Helicobacter spp., some healthy and others with gastrointestinal clinical signs treated at the Hospital Escuela FAV.
